Adult Student F.A.Q
Q: At what age are you considered an adult student?
A: Anyone who is 20 years of age or older on September 1st of the current school year.
Q: What is the cost?
A: Adults are required to pay a registration fee of $40.00 and a tuition fee of $170.60 per credit.
Q: What courses can adults take at STAR Catholic Outreach?
A: Adult students may take any courses offered at STAR Catholic Outreach School. An adult student is eligible to enroll in any course at the high school level without having the required prerequisite courses.
Q: Is attendance required at STAR Catholic Outreach School?
A: No. Our school has a non-attendance policy which means daily or weekly attendance is not required. All quizzes and final exams however must be written at the school.
Q: What if I have questions on my schoolwork?
A: Teachers will be available Mondays to Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You may also contact our teaching staff via e-mail or by phone.
Q: Because I’m an adult, do I still have to write Diploma Exams?
A: Yes. If you take a diploma course, you are required to write the corresponding diploma exam. Alberta Education sets all diploma exam times and dates and it will be your responsibility to be there to write on the correct date and time. All diploma exams except during the summer months are written at Christ the King Jr./Sr. High School in Leduc.
Q: Will I be required to attend any classes at STAR Catholic Outreach School?
A: No. All of the courses we offer are created for independent learning. On average, there are approximately 7 modules per course as well as a final exam, and you will be given one module to complete at a time. You are welcome to work on your independent course at the Outreach, or at home.
Q: Are the courses taken at STAR Catholic Outreach School recognized by Alberta Education?
A: Yes. All courses offered are submitted to Alberta Education and accredited. All teaching staff are fully qualified Alberta Teaching Association members and are employees of St. Thomas Aquinas RCSRD #38.
